Why You Should Sleep Naked

It’s time to throw modesty, and those flannel cat PJs to the wind because there’s a better way to get your beauty sleep, and that’s au naturel. Believe it or not, there are actual health perks to sleeping in the nude that don’t necessarily involve a Saturday night rendezvous. Here are some non-blush-worthy reasons to ditch your bedtime garb in favor of a great nights sleep!

Regulate Body Temperature
Who hasn’t woken up in the middle night feeling overheated with their pajamas all twisted up? Doing away with unnecessary layers of clothing allows the skin to breathe, and find a normal temperature for deeper more restful sleep. This is especially true during the hot summer months where it just makes more sense to naturally stay cool rather than crank up the air conditioner.

Reduce Cortisol Levels
Chronic insomnia stresses the body and triggers the release of the hormone cortisol which can lead to obesity and high blood pressure. People who don’t get enough sleep are prone to sugar cravings, daytime fatigue, and caffeine dependence. Sleeping naked, and swapping heavy bedding for lighter weight linens does wonders for rejuvenating, and uninterrupted sleep.

Boost Your Self Esteem
Besides feeling less constricted, you’ll feel more comfortable donning your birthday suit. We all want to feel good about our bodies, and there is nothing more liberating than showing some skin. Looking young is about feeling young, and regular 7-8 hours a night regulates melatonin which studies have shown to have anti-aging properties.

Healthier Relationships
Dubbed the “love hormone,” oxytocin is the feel-good chemical released during physical contact such as hugging or kissing. Getting under the covers with your partner for a skin to skin contact rather than wearing night-clothes, increases oxytocin levels, and helps reduce stress, and provides greater intimacy. A couple who have a healthy physical relationship tend to be healthier overall, and are able to connect more effectively on an emotional level.
